Who is Gautamiputra Satakarni ?

Gautamiputra Satakarni is a legendary Indian king belonging to "Satavahana" dynasty who ruled India during 2nd century CE.

He is believed to be the king "Shalivahana" who is extolled by the sacred Puranas like Bhagavata, Vishnu, Matsya, Vayu and Brahmanda, some thousands of years before his birth.

He is one of the 6 "Yuga Purushas" (Legends) of this Kali Yuga (a span of 4,32,000 years).

Indian calendar marks the day these Legends defeated foreigners, as a new era called "Saka" or "Samvat". After destroying all foreign invaders they establish 'Dharma' or the 'Vedic' way of life throughout 'Bharata Varsha' (India) restoring the glory of ancient past an eternal continuity in India..

First Yuga purusha (Legend) was the king Yudhisthira, whose Saka/Era lasted for 3044 years. Then came the King Vikramaditya, whose Saka lasted for 135 years. 3rd Legend is the king Shalivahan whose Saka/Era will last for 18,000 years. After that a new Shaka Purusha will come by name Vijayabhinandan whose era will last for 10,000 years. Then comes Nagarjuna whose era will last for 4,00,000 years. And finally comes "Kalki" to finish all 'Mlecchas" (Foreign Invaders) to establish the Dharma or the Vedic way of Life, whose era of 800 years would mark the end of this Kali Yuga which will be followed by temporary annihilation of the Earth.

Gautamiputra was a staunch believer of Vedas and ensured Dharma prevails. As described in his inscriptions found at found at Pandavleni Caves in Nashik, he destroyed the foreign invaders like Sakas (Kshatrapas), Pahlavas (Greeks), Yavanas (Parthians), Scythians etc and established Dharma throughout India. He was very benevolent and an able administrator. People lived in peace and prospered during his rule. He is compared to other great legendary Indian Kings like RamaArjunaBhimaNahushaJanamejayaSagaraYayati, Ambarisha.
etc who were very powerful and prosperous in ancient times.
